<image:title>Home - Enabling pupils of all ages and abilities to achieve their potential has been my passion as a teacher and school leader. In fifteen years, over a thousand pupils have passed through my classrooms. I have extensively coached 1-1 and in small groups, and more recently embraced remote teaching technology and techniques. Students under my care have consistently performed above expectation and made more progress than forecast. I balance an engaging and fun approach with the rigour necessary for success. <image:title>Why Tutoring - Exam Preparation</image:title>
<image:caption>A lot rests on examination performance: A level choices, university offers, even career paths. While exams have always been scary, the recent return to linear (non-modular) examinations mean years of study depends on just a few short hours’ performance. In addition, the COVID-19 pandemic means many pupils are simply out of practice. My track record of pupils achieving their potential in examinations ranks among the top performance of teachers nationally. At GCSE and A Level, my pupils have consistently surpassed expectations and gotten the grades they need to continue education or make university offers. See more in Methods, but annotated solutions and recordings enable effective revision. Pre-examination tuition is more intense with a more tactical goal. In this circumstance, I always thoroughly assess your child’s ability and current performance to develop a tailored programme.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Why Tutoring - Covid-19 Catch Up</image:title>
<image:caption>Through no fault of their own, many pupils have gaps in their knowledge from time missed out at school due to the pandemic. These gaps are a particular problem in Maths as it is an especially progressive subject - learning it is like building a tower. 1-1 tutoring allows for these gaps to be filled, and enables new learning to be built on solid foundations. For students aiming for top grades, 1-1 tutoring can help make connections between the different topics that are so key to advanced success in Maths.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Why Tutoring - Confidence building</image:title>
<image:caption>Many pupils simply lack confidence in Maths. Plenty of students I’ve taught have believed, often for years, that they “can’t do maths” or “numbers don’t make sense to me”. I believe that interest, engagement, and - believe it or not! - even enjoyment in Maths can be nurtured in every child. Focussed tutoring helps students deepen their skills, broaden their choice of methods, solve more creatively, transfer knowledge more easily, and ultimately achieve more.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Why Tutoring - Supporting school learning</image:title>
<image:caption>Consistent tutoring, on a weekly or fortnightly basis, can be an excellent way of supporting normal school learning. Different people find different things hard. Even the most gifted students I’ve taught have always had some topic that presents a greater challenge. Many pupils benefit from different explanations in order for them to master those most challenging topics. Tutoring 1-1 allows for a personalised approach that is impossible in the classroom. This can provide your child with teaching that is designed around them, tailored to their learning style and character.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Why Tutoring - Home education</image:title>
<image:caption>An increasing number of parents are making the choice to provide education for their children at home. Access to tuition can support and enable this choice. For those opting to take the demanding IGCSE examination, subject-specialist teaching tailored to your child can help them achieve the highest grades. See this DfE page for 2023 trends in home education.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Methods - Enabling Consolidation</image:title>
<image:caption>Lots of pupils need to revisit topics several times in order to consolidate their understanding, and then again when revising for exams! I record short explanations and solutions in five minute videos enabling consolidation and revision beyond lesson time. Your child - and you! - will have access to these in a shared Google Drive.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Methods - Explanation</image:title>
<image:caption>I’ve taught Maths to over a thousand children and teenagers; they all learn in different ways. My years of experience in the classroom enable me to give clear, logical explanations that the pupil in front of me will understand. The ‘penny-dropping’ moment is crucial for a pupil’s confidence and enables them to succeed in Maths. My aim is to ensure this happens every lesson.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Methods - Continual Assessment for Learning</image:title>
<image:caption>Aligned with pedagogical best practice, my teaching is based on continual assessment for learning, enabling me to unpick key misconceptions and to move learning forward. Under my tuition, pupils will build upon their prior knowledge and strengthen their understanding, enabling them to tackle difficult concepts with confidence.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Methods - Engaging</image:title>
<image:caption>Students learn Maths best when it is made real and when they enjoy it. Abstract concepts like probability and algebra can be brought to life by hands-on, practical, engaging methods. To aid students’ understanding, I use a range of physical and virtual manipulatives such as geoboards, algebra tiles, multilink, and polydrons.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Methods - Curriculum Knowledge</image:title>
<image:caption>I have thorough, up-to-date knowledge of the Department for Education’s programmes of study for Mathematics and on a range of Exam board specifications. Many pupils just don’t know how to apply their knowledge to examination or multi-topic questions. I can put that right!</image:caption>
